Communicating Europe – Limerick

‘Next stop for Leviathan Political Roadshow marking 40 Europe years is Limerick’

‘Inform, Entertain and Engage’

Marking 40 years of European Membership and Ireland’s succession of EU presidency, Leviathan Political Cabaret will visit Limerick for an evening of frank discussion, public conversation and entertainment focussing on what European citizenship has given Ireland and how citizens see their future within Europe. “Communicating Europe” with Leviathan is designed to inform, entertain and engage the Irish public on EU issues. The Leviathan Roadshow will visit Dolan’s Warehouse, Limerick on Thursday, May 2nd at 8pm, admission is free and open to the public.

Leviathan’s Paddy Cullivan, also of the Late Late show’s houseband, The Camembert Quartet will be on hand with his signature style of musical satire to lead the night into a lively and provoking Europe-event. Paddy will also take charge of the roaming microphone encouraging audience interaction for a night of integrated and equal discussion.

Joe Nash of Limerick 95 Live’s Limerick Today show will host and put forward topics of discussion to the panel which will include Minister of State for European Affairs Lucinda Creighton and local opinion leaders including Ciarán O’Donnell, University of Limerick International Society and Erasmus student, Jennifer Moroney-Ward of the Learning Hub and Dr. Eileen Humphreys, Senior Research Fellow at the University of Limerick. 2013 is European Year of the Citizens and the Leviathan Political Roadshow is a unique opportunity and forum for the people of Limerick to engage in EU issues.

“I am very excited about participating in these dialogues, our flagship event to mark European Year of Citizens in Ireland. This is a unique opportunity for people to engage on the future of the European Union and their place within it. I hope that these events can provide a platform for a real and constructive role in encouraging public discussion about the European Union. We need greater engagement by citizens across the EU on the issues that affect us all today. This process will culminate in a major event which will take place in Dublin Castle during Europe week with the Taoiseach, other members of Government and I.” said Lucinda Creighton, Minister of State for European Affairs.

Leviathan political cabaret, created in 2003 by Naoise Nunn is a live show that informs, entertains and engages the public through satire, comedy and music. Leviathan has previously been hosted by David McWilliams and has featured Bob Geldof, Dara Ó’ Briain, Des Bishop, former Government Ministers and current Irish president Michael D.Higgins as previous panel members.

“The most important element of this roadshow is the public. They offer an authentic voice often unheard in mainstream media. There is a deepening awareness of the role the EU plays in our lives and whether you get stuck into the topic of conversation or passively enjoy the entertainment, the aim of  ‘Communicating Europe’ is to inform, entertain and engage.” said Naoise Nunn, producer of Leviathan.

“Communicating Europe” in Dolan’s Warehouse, Limerick on Thursday, May 2nd is part of the series of Leviathan events marking Irelands 40th year of European membership and presidency of the European Union.
